Some renovation projects and building work carried out so far
Please watch this space as I begin to populate it from the numerous building work photos I have so far.
A lot of the photos of the building works still have to be given to me to add here to show you some of the building so far, but here are a few I already have.
So far building has been going on to my small house which has two rooms, an entrance hall plus square wet room for shower and toilet
Large patio double glazed windows were installed leading off to a large wooden balcony
In the meantime, I have been renovating my large barn.
The barn is 32 metres by 8 metres and the roof was in very poor condition.
The entire roof has had to be demolished.
On bringing down the roof and roof tiles with the old timbers, it became clear that it wasn't a moment too soon.
The heavy tiles had been held up by rotten woods and the brickwork of the walls were all severely lacking in cement.
It appears the entire barn was being held up by hope alone!
I will be adding the photos of the demolition of the roof in a moment!
A BARN RENOVATION
BRINGING DOWN THE AILING OLD ROOF
The renovation of my barn has been ongoing for 3 years now
The barn measures 32 metres by 8 metres and was built around 30 years ago
The huge roof was dangerously sagging and after numerous botch repairs, it was finally time to raise the roof!
Even this was no easy task for the Bulgarian builders.
Huge timbers and plenty of roof tiles to be carefull removed and stacked for reclaim usage, made the demolition a risky business.
... and why do I call this site ''Don't Nail Me''
All the buildings in Bulgaria seem to be held together with 9'' nails!
When old woods are removed, the nails are lovingly removed, hammered flat and reused!
Now that's what I call reclaim!
Howevers, with a team of four builders on the job, the demolition of the roof became a very efficient process and, very few roof tiles were damaged in the huge job.
These photos show a day of demolition bringing down the old roof.
It has left 24 metres of open space and creating enough reclaim building materials to rebuild more extensions to the part of the old hay shack that has already been subject to extensive renovations.
It is imperative to insulate your walls, as Bulgaria has long cold and very windy winters followed by very hot long summers.
The Bulgarian builders who have removed this huge roof, will be rebuilding, bit by bit, using as much reclaim material as possible, howevers, the woods are all good enough for the wood burner, except some of the huge logs which can be resurrected.
I will be updating the progress of my Bulgarian builders as the work gets underway and already the equally arduous task of a clean up, is well under way.
Some temporary additions will be put in place as the plans for the new extensions are carefully thought out before the builders get to work on reconstruction of the hay shack.
